Life is messy. I have noticed that life requires constant cleaning and maintenance. Life flows out. The Closet Doctor and Tupperware cannot contain life. I get a big sense of satisfaction at tax time when I box a year up and put it in the attic-- but that is really just the paperwork of life. The living goes on and messes up the kitchen, the bathroom, the car, the garage-- everywhere, really. It is so easy for me to get fixated on cleaning and forget about living. Of course, if you have been to my house, you might say cleaning paralyzes me and the mess gets fixated into piles! I have to admit that some of my best song writing inspiration has come when I was on my hands and knees cleaning. Perhaps that explains why I am feeling uninspired these days-- not enough time on my knees? Live on! --SD, for TBC
Hearts for Haiti: Doris' husband has been in Haiti this past week with a group of physicians from his church, getting an up close look at the devastation, tending to the wounded, and seeking ways to be of help. He writes: "The suffering here is immense. The big picture is overwhelming but there is encouragement in the small things... a baby born to a mother with a broken pelvis... seeing two guys re-building a wall-- just a few cinder blocks laid but an image that will stay with me." Also, "I spent time with a woman who lost her entire family. Our common language was Spanish. The universal language was heartbreak." See Hearts for Haiti, TBC Fundraiser Back to Burke, Maybe, & TBC Sheet Music Freebies: If snow doesn't hinder our travels, Sharon and I will be at the Burke Health Care Center this Saturday for a show and old-fashioned sing-along with the residents. Come and join us-- the residents love visitors! This really is one of our favorites! (Snow Day: Feb 13, 2:30) Also, get free lead sheets and music for some of our Christmas songs and praise and worship originals. Print and try 'em yourself, or pass them along. --Doris, for TBC
